John Coumatos
Mr. John Coumatos, Assistant Treasurer of the Nassau County LEAC. Appointed August 6, 2018.
As a small business owner, Mr. Coumatos brings an entrepreneurial perspective to the board and is a staunch supporter of assisting the brick in mortar stores that make up the fabric of Nassau County.
Mr. Coumatos has proudly been the owner of Bethpage-based B.K. Sweeney’s Parkside Tavern. For nearly forty years, Mr. Coumatos has handled the daily operations and direction of the restaurant ensuring its profitability and stellar reputation. He maintains inventories, allocates resources, administers payroll, and ensures customer satisfaction. His most stressful undertaking has been adapting to the never-ending changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Coumatos is a current Commissioner of the Bethpage Water District and is an active member of the Long Island Water Conference, the American Water Works Association and Nassau-Suffolk Water Commissioners Association where he works to maintain the quality and quantity of Long Island’s drinking water. On behalf of Bethpage residents, his responsibilities include negotiating with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for monies owed to Bethpage citizens from Northrop Grumman and the U.S. Navy to restore two dozen drinking water wells pumping and treating millions of gallons of water located at the Northrop Grumman Site Facility.
Mr. Coumatos attended Nassau Community College, as well as Hofstra University, and has been a Bethpage resident for nearly fifty years. Mr. Coumatos has a long history of community and civic activism. Over the years, Mr. Coumatos has organized numerous food drives, including his annual Thanksgiving feast for veterans, and has donated to Bethpage PTA, scouts, churches and other charitable events throughout the town of Bethpage. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1984 and an active member of the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce. He is the co-founder of the Bethpage Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, one of the largest on the Island. Mr. Coumatos is a committed and valued stakeholder to Bethpage and Nassau County.
